The Footscray Renewal initiative is part of the State Government’s program to create more vital, attractive, sustainable and safe town centres in key locations around Melbourne that are close to public transport.
A key component of Footscray Renewal is the construction of the new Footscray station footbridge and forecourts. Improving public transport access was one of the priorities identified by the community for improving Central Footscray.
In 2008 the community gave input into the new design which reflects the industrial history of Footscray.
The Victorian Government has invested $52.1 million funding in the Footscray Renewal over four years, beginning in 2007.
